Heaven was definitely at THE GREENHOUSE ON THE RIDGE that evening.  ( a pop up restaurant within OLIVE at Mehrauli, New Delh) . Hope you have read the earlier chapters in this series of blogs.

Master Chef Sujan and his magical conjurers had laid out 9 steps or courses to divinity.

I am sharing these with you.

Take a break with  a “Havana” Cigar ? The chef brings these lovely chocolate cigars in a bed of liquid nitrogen. The smoke is the nitrogen turning to its gaseous state at room temperature.

The final and 9th step to HEAVEN had all the guests in raptures, with wow, oohs, aahs .

Have a look yourself?

It was a fabulous and delicious treat. The ‘shell’ was an extra thin meringue which simply melted on the tongue. The ‘yellow yolk ‘ was a smooth citrus lemony mousse.

The 9th step was truly the ultimate , THIS WAS HEAVEN in THE GREENHOUSE ON THE RIDGE.

The surprises did not end, as I spotted a bit of the ridge well-preserved in the kitchen.

The Kitchen work table had been built around these rocks.

The Greenhouse on the Ridge is aptly named as it is  the sweetest little cottage I have seen.. Through the  large windows all you see is the greenery on the ridge.

Beautiful and delicate  white curtains drape the windows and the tables have crisp white damask linen with large lemon yellow borders.

The 9 steps to Heaven is how I have rechristened the exotic and simply divine  9 course dinner crafted by Master Chef Sujan S. The white carnations in the kulhad make a comeback, being the signature of this series of blogs.

The 4th course made me realize how much thought and planning had gone into designing this wonderful culinary experience.

The vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes look identical as the scallops are replaced by young creamy coconut flesh .

The black rice tastes awesome. Another surprise for me.

The beautiful plates are carefully selected and handcrafted as well to match the food.

All the courses/steps  are  truly art crafted by the finest chefs in the world.

I had never even heard of the vegetables ( let alone taste them)  included  in the 6th step to Heaven. Do see the really  delicate baby carrots.

The greens on top are called Kale; be honest, have you heard of them before?

Edible sand, burnt butter, speak of ingenuity and you will get it at THE TASTING LAB.

THREE OF 9 STEPS TO HEAVEN

As we continue past the gorgeous banyan trees  ( do read the previous posts) and hear the  water gurgling  we come close to taking our FIRST THREE STEPS TO HEAVEN.

This is a novel experiment of a restaurant (Greenhouse on the Ridge)   within a restaurant

( OLIVE at Mehrauli, New Delhi).

The visual appeal of the food and the assortment of flavours to follow can be described in only  one word , DIVINE.

As we enter this sweet cottage , the chefs are captured on camera secretly  debating what to unveil for the evening. Little do they know a blogger is now in their midst.

I get a glimpse of the plan and the first three steps. There are two menus, one for vegetarians and the other  for non vegetarians.

The first visual had me rocking with surprise. The first step to heaven had three parts, have a look.

The Duck Egg  in the center is made from EDIBLE CLAY. For the rest I shall  not steal your experience. Taste it yourself.

The white carnations are my link and clues to connect  all the chapters of this series on this amazing experience of  FOOD.

Each course leaves you  gasping for breath . The presentation and tastes will simply blow you away. The sprinkling is fermented garlic, which subtly tingles the taste buds like bubbles of joy.

The food is beautiful inside as well. Have a look for yourselves. This was the second step of this divine experience.

There are  only a total of six cozy  tables  in the restaurant . The Window to Heaven ( the Tasting Lab )  opens its doors only on Thursday night. If you do not plan in advance the evenings are sold out and you need to wait  yet another week.

                     the restaurant

For  animal lovers  , there exists a 9 STEP plan as well , it is the Vegetarian Menu.

What is excellent is that most of the ingredients grow in farms close to the restaurant in Chattarpur. Organic food with a small carbon footprint.

The chefs magically conjure up  the food right before your eyes . The food is very  fresh as it is placed on your table  within seconds of being prepared.

The “Chocobar” is  something quite different. Am not leaking out any secrets as we move  onto  the third step way to Heaven.

Catch your breath, have a drink and relax. Wait for the next three steps in another blog.

Hope you are getting a whiff of Heaven.

A TASTE OF HEAVEN

When I started blogging a month ago, I had thought I  will share my joy of  travel  within India.

Never did I think I will write on food or a restaurant within this enormous and bustling metropolis of New Delhi. This is the second of my series on a fabulous HEAVENLY experience. As I said stay ON BOARD.

However  I was punched into Heaven this Week and simply had to share the experience. I am not paid or commissioned by anyone for my writings. ( I write this as i have read many such blogs)  I blog as I wish to share the joys I  experience.

However simply block your Thursday Nights to experience a bit of Heaven.

This little statue of Lord Ganesha is nestled in a fork of a tree at the entrance.

Thursday night was precious as the moon was out in all its glory. We  drove  down to Qutab Minar (an 11th century Tower of Victory) located in Mehrauli , New Delhi. The drive from Qutab Minar is very interesting as you have many old buildings, restaurants and upscale designer shops along the way. A romantic drive indeed.

Even our destination is christened ONE STYLE MILE.

Olive Bar & Kitchen is a lovely well known eatery and very popular amongst  all  ( did i say all  ,ok rectified to many ) the residents of New  Delhi. This enormous Banyan tree is located in the midst of this beautiful house converted into a  Mediterranean look restaurant serving ITALIAN food .

However hold on for the surprise, we are not exactly going to Olive, but to this very sweet restaurant within OLIVE. Am sure many who have been to Olive have never even seen this little board.

A very unusual idea is this very sweet, special and exclusive  little cottage reserved ONLY on Thursday nights for 21 special guests.

ONLY 21 guests, Heaven is an exclusive club is it not ?

A remarkable feature is The Chefs work before your eyes to create their magic .However remember  this happens only on Thursday nights.

The white carnations from the first article make a come back as we get onto a CRACKER of a start. The support to local craftsmen is evident in the lovely  little duck egg  coloured pottery vase. ( a “kulhad”  made by the local potters of Delhi)
