I saw a fairly large shade providing  Tree at the entrance of  the PadmanabhaSwamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandram), Kerala, India.  bearing the Lovely White Flower you see in the  Featured Image above.

The Flower bears a strong resemblance to the Flower of the Strawberry Plant giving it the name Strawberry Tree.

The Bud

I have learnt since that the Lovely Strawberry Like White Flowers of the Panama Cherry or Strawberry Tree ( English Common Names), Muntigia calabura ( Scientific name) have a Life Span of only One Day.

The Five White Petals Fall off during Mid Day itself as can be seen in the picture below.

no petals
Stunning without Petals as well.

The Round Green Fruits will turn into a Cherry Red Hue on maturing giving the tree the name Jamaica Cherry and Panama Cherry.

I saw the fruits  in the Raw Stage, i.e: Green, only and have never seen this fruit or tree anywhere in India before.

It is Native to Mexico and apparently quite common across Central and South America.

The Fruit is Edible and I believe quite delicious.

Will transform into a Cherry Red Like Fruit

If you recall the Blog “Blessed Cold” posted yesterday I had  shared images of a Natural Healer for Common Colds.

Be surprised as this CHERRY FRUIT or STRAWBERRY FLOWERS have antiseptic properties and the flowers are consumed as a remedy for Colds.

Enchanted  ??
