Any blog/travelogue about Himalayas always reminds me of Swami Sundarananda whom I interviewed some 30-odd years ago. A sadhu living in a cave in the Himalayas, he had the most modern cameras, including a Hezalblad (?), the costliest then, and produced breathtaking pictures of the mountains which made people want to immediately resign their jobs and head straight for those heavenly places. He occasionally exhibited his huge photographs in different cities and I had caught up with him in Bangalore. After we talked for an hour in Hindi he revealed that he was too a Telugu-speaking man from Andhra who ran away from home in pre-teen years, ended up with a Sadhu and fell in love with Himalayas which he made his abode.
During your treks to the Himalayaas did you come across him or hear about him? Can anyone recall more about him? Some very interesting people get lost in history and need to be recalled.
