These beautiful and attractive White Star Bursts are Umbels of Onion Flowers.
Onion ( English), Pyaz ( Hindi) ,Allium cepa ( Scientific Name) Â is an ancient vegetable known to man since time immemorial.
I wonder how many have seen these Enchanting flowers before.
All these pictures were taken in a field close to the village of Raipur,Pali District near Ajmer, Rajasthan.
Onions are primarily cultivated and many claim they are no longer found in the wild anymore. However read on and you will be surprised.
This Umbel consists primarily of Buds and does present a Pretty Picture.
Onions are almost staple food for a vast number in  India and there are still a vast number of people  for whom  the Local Home made Bread ( Roti) , Onions and Salt make up a complete meal.
The Stems holding the weight of the Umbels of the Onion Flowers, Â twist and turn like Snakes.
Do see them at various stages in the picture below before they turn into pretty little White Stars.
The following picture is of a Wild Onion I photographed on the Aravalli Hills close to Lakshman Sagar ( a must visit site)Â a few kilometers from the Onion Fields pictured above.
The dry bulb will spring to life with the first drops of Rain during the Monsoons.
Thus the theory they do not exist in the wild is laid to rest.
Do have another look at the humble Onion as it does have an Enchanting past.
So beautiful photographs and beautiful blooms… Loved them. Thank you, Love, nia

I was born in a vlg surrounded by onion farms in Andhra. The long stem of the flower, spring onion, is a popular vegetable in my vlg used in a dozen curries that go well with Rayalaseema millet rotis. Tks ,Mukul, for the nice post.
